Giles
Packham - creative director
Giles is classically trained and has studied piano, clarinet, guitar and double bass. He also 'plays by ear', which means he can hear something once and play it straight away. From an early age he mixed his keen interest in music technology, composing and computers with these. He started out teaching himself by building up a home studio. He formalised this training studying Music & Media Technologies in Trinity
College Dublin, for which he received his M.Phil in 2000. He formerly worked at Number 4 Studios Windmill Lane, where he was trained
in post production sound by engineer Paddy Gibbons. Giles has been involved in professional
audio for over 14 years.
His extensive
CV includes writing music for all media (see look & listen
for samples). He has written original scores for film, television, advertising
and theatre and has continued studying orchestration with Bob Drasnin, Conrad Pope and the late Don Ray under the Screen Training Ireland/ UCLA program. His
particular specialties are music composition and sound design
to picture, synthesizer sound programming, and mixing.
Karl Burke - managing director
A practicing solicitor
in a previous incarnation, he has also been involved in music
and photography for 19 years. He plays guitar, bass, and piano but his main instrument is really the studio. He started programming effects and synthesizers in 1990. He has written several film
scores for Irish and American independent films and performed
live with various groups. His specialty is sound design using
hardware and software synthesis techniques, with a particular
interest in analogue modular synthesis.
Jodie - non-human resources director
Jodie joined Waveform Studios in 2004 as part time non-human resources director. She plays stick and ball very well and is an expert in anaylising the high frequency spectrum. Her favorite synthesizer patch is called 'Howling Dog' . She can often be seen hanging around town. Her favorite park is Stephen's Green. Her second favorite park is Merrion Square.
